Christians believe that sickness and health are related to God’s perception of individuals. Christians consider sickness as emanating from the fallenness of the world and the manifestation of God’s pronouncement to man. As such, many consider sickness as a sign of God’s wrath but also an opportunity to show His power over evil. Health is a blessing from God and those who are sick seek God’s healing. As such, Christians should understand that sickness and health are critical parts of everyday living for individuals and not necessarily about one’s sinfulness. Christians should consider that when one falls sick, they require interventions to regain their health. Christians ought to acknowledge God’s intention for sickness and health that it allows one to appreciate having quality time and should not illustrate disobedience (Hoehner, 2020). Suffering, that include pain, sickness and death or disability demonstrates one’s living with reality and seeking God’s intervention. Therefore, Christians ought to understand that sickness and health are important and are not either gifts or curses but a natural part of life.

While Mike demonstrates his strong faith, especially by standing firms, he should allow the physician and the team to implement the suggested interventions to treat his son. Mike like other Christians should not think that medical intervention is lack of faith in God. They should seek medical interventions as they pray that God heals the individuals like James in this case. God does not command Christians to shun physicians and medical interventions (Sabo, 2021). For instance, Jesus Christ asserts that the healthy ones do not need medical attention or physicians, but the sick require physicians (Mathew 9:12 NIV). People should not only depend on prayers and faith to treat diseases when medical remedies have been developed through the scientific knowledge given to man by God.

As a strong Christian, Mike should leave James in the hands of medical specialists and allow Samuel to donate the matching kidney based on the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence while also placing his trust in God that He will heal his son. Mike should keep his faith and hope that both sons will recover fast and be okay. He should consider the physician as God’s messenger who shall heal James and return his good health. Mike should keep trusting God that he shall heal the boy while ensuring that all actions and decisions that he makes are based on the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence. Mike understands the benefits of the interventions suggested by the physician and the team to ensure that James gets better. He should stop making any moves that will harm the boy’s health. Mike should honor these principles for the benefit of his son (Hubbard et al., 2019). The recommended actions by the physician are aimed at improving James’ health and not harming him. Mike should accept these interventions and place his trust in God to heal and the medical team treats.

Holistic care encompasses meeting different needs of a patient, including their spiritual concerns and practices as demonstrated by Mike who believes on miracle healing as a mark of his robust faith in God. Through a thorough and effective spiritual needs assessment, practitioners can support patients not just spiritually but also emotionally so that they attain quality and holistic care that integrates religious practices. Spiritual needs assessment also encourages and implores patients to use spiritual resources at their disposal to improve overall wellness and respond to treatment interventions (Sabo, 2021). Through this approach, patients attain renewal, growth, and resiliency.
