Week 7: Current Topics

Last week, we discussed the special populations that are also victims and survivors of domestic violence. This week, we will discuss the current topic related to domestic violence. This includes new perspectives in domestic violence, as well as recent research topics that focus on domestic violence.

This week we will continue to understand how domestic violence incurs significant social, emotional and economic costs to victims, their families and the broader community by evaluating current topics in domestic violence. As we have accessed, a number of factors have also been identified as increasing the risk that an individual will become a perpetrator of domestic violence, and understanding the complex interaction of attitudes, motives and situational factors underlying offender behavior is helpful in developing effective prevention strategies. Furthermore, evaluating current topics in relation to domestic violence is important in advocating for the end of abuse.

As we will continue to learn, domestic violence remains a relatively new field of study among social scientists but it is already a popular subject in academia. Only within the past four decades have scholars recognized domestic violence as a social problem. Now, domestic violence continues to impact human rights, economics, and public health.

Empirical Journal Article: This type of scholarly resource is a subset of scholarly articles that reports the original finding of an observational or experimental research study. Common aspects found within an empirical article include: literature review, methodology, results, and discussion.
