A Sample Answer For the Assignment: Discussion: NURS 6003 Nursing Profession
As I researched more about this week’s topic of APRN regulations, I discovered that each state has distinct restrictions regarding how Nurse Practitioners can do their duties. It is both surprising and frustrating that there are still many restrictions on NP practice in several jurisdictions, including my own, Pennsylvania. The AANP has broad definitions for practice authority statuses (Carthon, et al., 2018).
Full Practice, Reduced Practice, and Restricted Practice are the three options. Each state’s State Board of Nursing (BON) has its own set of regulations. Each state has a website devoted to their specific BON outlining the laws and regulations that are necessary in that state. I reside in Pennsylvania (PA), where the State Board of Nursing is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all residents of the state by regulating the practice of professional and practical nursing, dietetics, and nutrition and granting licenses to clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, graduate nurses, registered nurses, practical nurses, and certified registered nurse practitioners(Carthon, et al., 2018).

A Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CNP) in Pennsylvania 14 required to fulfill needs for ongoing education on a biennial cycle of renewal. These requirements include completing a minimum of 30 continuing education credits, of which 16 hours must be in pharmacology (Kandrack, et al., 2021). Additionally, PA mandates that at least two hours of ongoing education in pain management, identifying addiction, or the practices of prescribing or distributing opioids be completed by all certified registered nurse practitioner(CRNP) and dispensers (Carthon, et al., 2018),Because I lived so close to the PA and West Virginia (WV) line while I was in nursing school, and I completed my clinical rotations there.
Several of my classmates had licenses from both West Virginia and Pennsylvania, allowingthem to work in either state. The main distinction I discovered in WVregulation during my investigation was that it is a state that is part of the NLC multi-state nursing license. There are total of 26 states that take part in the Nursing Compact States (NLC). Being able to practice in numerous states while paying different license fees and renewal fees every two years is quiteadvantageous. I believe that NLC has advantages and disadvantages.

The NLC helps traveling nurses since it eliminates the need for several licenses.Additionally, since there are more traveling nurses, it might make it harder for nurses to get jobs close to where they live in states that take part in the NLC. In West Virginia, you must renew your license each year and complete twelve contact hours (Peterson, 2017).Any professional whose license has expired is prohibited from practicing until it is reinstated.
Your license may be revoked, or you may be required to attend the appropriate lessons or training if you do not fully adhere to your state’s laws and regulations. The expectations of the profession before earning that license have been explained to us as we become ready to receive a license.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) supports high standards of nursing practice, promotes the economic and general welfare of nurses in theworkplace, projects a positive and realistic view of nursing, and advocates before Concerning medical issues that affect nurses and the general population, congress and regulatory bodies (Kandrack, et al., 2021). Never forgetting the need of safe practice, I will always conduct my business as a medical professional.

Thank you for providing details on your professional nursing journey. I sympathize with your struggles on deciding where you feel you are a best fit after achieving your graduate nursing degree. We are similar in our choices, I also did not see myself working in psychiatric or maternal-fetal medicine. I have been working in acute care and recently made the switch from the FNP program to the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
Adult-Gerontology Primary Care nurse practitioners (AGPCNP) are responsible for developing relationships with their patients that will assist them in preventing acute exacerbations of chronic diseases and the development of new illnesses.
According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (2020):
Many AGPCNPs work in long-term care settings, hospital-based clinics and private practices, which may require them to obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, order screening tests, interpret diagnostic tests and administer age-appropriate pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies. AGPCNPs may also manage transitions between care settings, provide patient and caregiver education and evaluate caregiver competence (para. 2).
You described that you want to develop strong patient-caregiver relationships, so I feel that you are making the right choice. These patients will be part of your long-term clientele, so when you are making decisions based on their health status, you will be well aware of not only their health history, but of social, environmental, and financial factors that attribute to their health.
Since you expressed interest in primary care and nursing education, I feel that this puts you in an interesting position to become a nursing leader. Primary care will allow you to understand the influence of laws, public policy, and epidemiology on the health of your patients. It is important that you are aware of health policy because it will affect the care that your patients receive, as well as insurance premiums, medication affordability, and more. As a nurse educator, your job will be to teach the foundations of nursing to students who will develop their own self-concept as a nurse and hopefully seek out leadership roles.
The profession needs nursing leaders to influence policymakers to create laws that improve healthcare working conditions and protect staff and patient safety. The AGPCNP competencies include a section on policy. These competencies explain that professional nurses should advocate for healthcare laws that dismantle barriers to care, understand the policymaking process and the factors that influence laws, and evaluate the effects that health policies have not just on a single area, but across the globe.
Ultimately, the nurse practitioner should promote improved delivery of services to the patient to improve safety and health outcomes (Adult-Gerontology NP Competencies Work Group, 2016). I hope you give this some thought as nursing education really needs to include policy development! We need nurses invested in leadership and transformation of the field.

Week 11 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan
Part 6: Finalizing the Plan
At some point in every construction project, efforts turn from design and the focus moves to actual construction. With the vision in place and the tools secured, the blueprint can be finalized and approved. Then it is time to put on hardhats and begin work.
Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have thought a great deal about your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of
consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.
Much asbuilders remain cognizant of the building standards as they plan and begin construction,
nurses must remain mindful of the formal standards of practice that govern their specialties. A good understanding of these standards can help ensure that your success plan includes any steps necessary to excel within your chosen specialty.
In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional
Development Plan by developing the final component–a review of your specialty standards of practice. You will also submit your final version of the document, including Parts 1–5.
To Prepare:
Review the standards of practice related to your chosen specialty.
