The nursing shortages is attributed to the increasing number of patients with chronic illnesses. Besides, the cost of the nursing education increased significantly and this means that most of the students are not able to afford the cost. Therefore, students opt to pursue alternative courses which tend to be cheaper. While the number of patients continue to increase, the number of nursing students graduating from the colleges still remain low (Shamsi & Peyravi, 2020). Besides, it takes years to train a fully qualified nurse. The disproportionality in the population growth and the cases of chronic illnesses in comparison to the number of nursing students graduating from the colleges means that there will always be a shortage in the staffing.

One of the fastest way of addressing the nursing shortage is outsourcing the nursing professionals from other regions. The approach is effectively since it offers ultimate and fast solution to the current problems of nursing shortage. The state gets already qualified nurses from other regions. In such cases, no extra time is spent in trying to train other nurses which will require a lot of resources and time. However, the solution may not be sustainable in the long-run as the number of the patients requiring nursing interventions escalate. The healthcare institutions should focus more on promoting preventing care services to reduce the burden of the chronic illnesses which requires regular and comprehensive attention from the nurses (Marć et al., 2018). Besides, the use of the home-based care delivery and the community health volunteers can also help ease the congestion of the patients in the hospitals and thus minimizing the nursing shortage. Promoting self-care skills among the patients will reduce the level of their reliance on the healthcare providers.

Topic 1 DQ 1

Description:

Discuss the events that have contributed (or will continue to contribute) to the nursing shortage, or that contribute to a shortage in a region or specialty. Discuss at least one way that the nursing profession is currently working toward a resolution of this problem. In replies to peers, offer different examples of how the nursing shortage has been addressed in your state, community, or specialty area.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
