HCS 465 WEEK 5 Ethical Scenario

Select one of the ethical scenarios listed below.

• A company uses patient DNA for research without the patient’s knowledge or consent.
• A nonprofit organization sells fetal tissue for research.
• Management invites researchers onto a health care research project who do not have the Internal Research Board’s (IRB) approval or exemption.
• An oncology Clinical Trials Coordinator selects a relative for a research study who has the cancer under investigation. The relative is placed in the group receiving the experimental drug.

Identify at least 3 peer-reviewed research articles that relate to the ethical concerns of the chosen scenario or to the process step at which ethical issues may have begun.

In the team forum, discuss the scenario as a team. Feel free to consider opposing viewpoints.

Prepare a 12- to 15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with detailed speaker notesthat discusses the points below.

Include the following in your presentation:

• At what step in the scenario the ethical concern(s) occurred or may have occurred?
• Explain how evidenced-based research can eliminate or minimize ethical concerns in the health care industry.
• Compare and contrast research studies and quality management projects as it relates to healthcare.

Review the sample annotated bibliography. Then, using the University Library, locate at least 3 peer-reviewed research articles related to healthcare issues, concerns or trends.

Topic ideas include (but not limited to):

• Infection rates among icu patients
• Readmission rates for congestive heart failure patients
• Patient satisfaction or patient experience of care
• Population health management in diabetes care
• Care coordination or care continuum
• Patient safey or quality management

Complete an annotated bibliography with at least 3 research articles related to healthcare issues, concerns or trends. Each bibliography at least 150-words in length.

As a team, select one peer-reviewed research article from the Week Two Annotated Bibliography assignment. Please check with me to ensure the research study is appropriate. Review the Questions to Prompt Critical Thinking document.

 Write a 1000- to 1,500-word paper that address the questions outlined in the Questions to Prompt Critical Thinking document. As a team paper, be sure the tone and flow are smooth and seamless. Be sure the writing is scholarly with no more than 2 direct quotes. Preferably no direct quotes.

 Format your paper according to APA guidelines, and cite the peer-reviewed article selected for your paper.

HCS 465 WEEK 4 Research Validity & Ethics in Research

Using the University Library, locate one peer-reviewed research study with possible ethical concerns. Write a 700- to 1,050-words paper addressing the points below. You may use a research study you identified in week-2 bibliography, but not the research article selected for week-3 team assignment.

• Discuss the research study, and identify possible ethical issues.
• Explain how such concerns can influence the research outcomes.
• Define validity as it relates to research. Discuss importance of research validity and contrast with research bias.
• Summarize how ethics can lead to biases that influence health care research.
• Discuss stakeholder and external influences on health care research. Include possible ethical concerns.

Cites at least 3 peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar references, including the research article discussed.DO NOT use “.com” commercial or “.org” proprietary sources.
