Nursing informatics (NI) is the practice and science of integrating nursing information and knowledge with technology to manage and incorporate health information (Reid et al., 2021). NI aims to improve the health of patients, families, and communities while reducing costs. NI improves decision-making in both direct and indirect nursing roles. It achieves this through the collection, extraction, aggregation, analysis, and interpretation of standardized data using data science principles and methods.

NI competencies are vital for nurses in all roles to function effectively in complex and contemporary healthcare environments. Besides, there is a need to have nurses with a specialization in informatics to foster decision-making relevant to the nursing profession’s use of information and technology in digital health environments (Reid et al., 2021).

These webinars are useful for expanding one’s knowledge and participating in issues impacting healthcare delivery.

The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) is an organization that provides “networking, education, and information resources that enrich and strengthen the roles of nurses in the field of informatics” (About Us, 2023). In today’s dynamic health care system, the nurse leader is important in introducing design thinking. This is the link between various bodies of knowledge aimed at inspiring and igniting creativity and innovation (Snow, 2019). Therefore, inspiring creativity in the workplace is a major role of the nurse leader in implementing innovative care models.

Development of workplaces that empower nurses and other health care practitioners to advance new and innovative ideas is another role of the nurse leaders in executing innovative care models. The current health care industry is characterized by increased competition in which the organizations compete for the scarce health care funding (Snow, 2019). As such, creation of new and better products and services offers an organization the necessary competitive advantage (Snow, 2019). For this reason, nurse leaders should educate and empower nurses on the importance of innovation to the organization.

The innovative modes of care have positive impact on the collaboration between advanced registered nurses and other stakeholders in the industry. In order to be successful in implementing innovative care models, nurse leaders should realize the importance of building mutually beneficial partnerships with both internal and external collaborators to ensure that the change initiative is not solely nursing driven (Morjikian et al., 2007). Therefore, the innovative care models are improving collaborations amongst the various professionals and stakeholders in the health care industry.

Nurse leaders have an extremely important role when it comes to implementing innovative care models. Due to this learning curve, innovative modes of care greatly affect the collaboration between nurse leaders and other stakeholders in the healthcare industry. Innovation requires all parties involved to be open to change and remain current within their respective specialties to help come up with new ideas that also implement the most current and effective evidence based interventions. All stakeholders involved have to develop a strong interprofessional relationship to collaborate effectively to implement change and continue to uphold all innovative strategies that are being implemented. These efforts spark new ideas, processes, and practices to be introduced into the organization, thus keeping the organization relevant in a changing healthcare environment ( Weberg & Mangold, 2023).
