Nursing informatics (NI) is the practice and science of integrating nursing information and knowledge with technology to manage and incorporate health information (Reid et al., 2021). NI aims to improve the health of patients, families, and communities while reducing costs. NI improves decision-making in both direct and indirect nursing roles. It achieves this through the collection, extraction, aggregation, analysis, and interpretation of standardized data using data science principles and methods.

Therefore, inspiring creativity in the workplace is a major role of the nurse leader in implementing innovative care models.

Development of workplaces that empower nurses and other health care practitioners to advance new and innovative ideas is another role of the nurse leaders in executing innovative care models. The current health care industry is characterized by increased competition in which the organizations compete for the scarce health care funding (Snow, 2019). As such, creation of new and better products and services offers an organization the necessary competitive advantage (Snow, 2019). For this reason, nurse leaders should educate and empower nurses on the importance of innovation to the organization.

The innovative modes of care have positive impact on the collaboration between advanced registered nurses and other stakeholders in the industry.
